Cllrs Cannon and Swinerd have issued the following statement after the passing of their colleague and fellow Brent councillor, Nancy Wightman:
"We are sorry to bring you news of the death of a popular local resident and one of your local Borough Councillors, Nancy Wightman, who has passed away at Darent Valley Hospital after a short illness. We will all miss Nancy as a friend, a colleague, a neighbour and especially for her dedication to the people of Brent ward.
As you may know, Dartford is due to hold a full set of Borough Council elections in early 2015 and in view of the close proximity of these polls and the cost to Brent taxpayers of holding a by-election, the Dartford Conservative Association will not be petitioning for such an election to be held - although others may do so. Democratic representation is hugely important so we would be pleased to cover Nancy’s consituency workload and undertake to share such responsibilities with representatives of other parties who might wish to work alongside us. If other political groups follow suit, we hope that local householders may be spared the substantial cost of a by-election so close to a scheduled set of elections.
We will miss you Nancy. May you Rest in Peace."
They have stated further that they will pay tribute to Nancy in a circular to be delivered across the ward in the very near future.
