We were delighted to welcome the Member of Parliament for Lichfield, the ever recognisable Michael Fabricant, to the Malt Shovel in Dartford on 7th September. Michael gave a very funny, entertaining and multi-faceted speech. Michael commented subsequently that he was ‘very risqué - but I think I got away with it.’
He spoke about why Britain should be optimistic about Brexit and castigated the naysaying of Labour Remainers, noting that London was the world’s financial centre and that Britain’s prospects are brighter than ever now that it will no longer be ‘shackled to a corpse’. He predicted that a favourable deal between the UK and the EU would be struck much closer to the date the UK exits from the EU.
He also spoke about the recent general election and how the result could be considered comparatively positive for the Conservatives having waged what he called the ‘worst campaign in history’. He referred to Andy Street’s successful campaign for the West Midlands Mayoralty earlier in the year and how it was built on a message of aspiration and how the Party could emulate it nationally.
Michael also had time to talk about Lichfield Cathedral, being sprayed with water at the theatre in the USA and artfully re-enacted his cameo appearance in the original House of Cards series.
Thank you to everyone who attended, to the Malt Shovel for providing superb catering (as always) and especially to Michael for such a tremendous evening.
